Common questions and answers regarding the purchase, licensing and usage of Facbook Forensics software:

The End User Licence Agreement (EULA) is featured during installation of the software and requires the user to consent to the terms and conditions. The EULA can be downloaded here: EULA v3.1
System requirements for the toolset are minimal. The software requires less than 30mb for installation and is not limited by either available RAM or processor speed. Saved casefiles are normally under 5mb each. Facebook Forensic Toolkit (YFT) has been tested on Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, and Windows 8 (32-bit and 64-bit editions). The toolset does not have any external dependencies and has been tested and found not to intefere with other producutivity software (e.g. Microsoft Office) or forensic tools (e.g. Encase, FTK, Netanalysis). Please contact us if you have a special infrastructure setup or require a customised installation package.
We will accept purchase orders from legitimate Government and Law Enforcement Agencies for multiple licences. Our preferred method of payment is via credit/debit card, Bank Transfer or UK/US Currency cheque. We will not accept purchase orders from software resellers, or where the software is purchased for a third party. Please contact us to discuss purchasing options.
Facebook Forensic Toolkit (YFT) is a specialist investigative and forensic toolset. We are happy to assist with the drafting of Single or Sole Source Purchase Justification contracts/submissions.
No; software licences are generated and lock the installation to a single computer. The same licence key will not allow the software to run on a different computer. Please contact us if you need to move the software to a new computer or if you would like to purchase secondary or further licences at a discounted rate.
Licences are valid for six or twelve month terms. The software will permit the user to update and upgrade the application so long as the current licence is valid. This includes both minor release (e.g. v1.3 to v1.4) and upgrades to major releases (e.g. v1.3 to v2).
No - all software is distributed electronically so that costs to the user are minimised and to comply with UK VAT rules.
Licences for verifiable research or educational establishments are available at significant discounts. Such licences may not be used for commercial digital forensics work under any circumstances. Educational and research licences cannot be upgraded nor used for commercial/legal purposes. Please contact us if you would like to enquire about obtaining the software under an educational or research licence agreement.
If you have discovered a potential problem with the software then please let us know. When getting in touch, please provide your LICENCE ID (which can be found by selecting Help - About), the version of the software you are using, details on the operating system and any service packs installed, and instructions on how to recreate the issue. If possible, please also include a screenshot as well as the AUDIT LOG generated by the toolkit. This will help us swiftly identify and resolve the problem. Your feedback is valued and will benefit all users of the forensic toolset.
Yes we provide certified social media training. We are currently developing new digital forensics and online investigation courses for mid-2015 and shall be announcing their availability and locations shortly. Courses will be available to law enforcement, qualified individual consultants, and commercial forensic service providers. Attendants will learn about different social media platforms, investigation techniques, securing Best Evidence, and producing clear reports for court/tribunal purposes. All delegates will be issued certificates on successful completion of the training course.
